Sasanna Yee, a yoga teacher and inspirational speaker, shows us that community and compassion are pathways toward peace.  After 17 year old Keonte Gathron took the life of her 89 year old grandmother Yik Oi Huang, Sasanna sprang into action being the change she wants to see in the world.  Sasanna was the recipient of the 2019 Raymond Shonholtz Visionary Peacemaker Award for her anti-violence advocacy and innovative approaches to bring diverse people together for understanding and reconciliation. She founded the social movement Asians Belong and the nonprofit Communities as One.  Sasanna’s ability to guide with vision and speak from a platform of peace and transformation has inspired thousands.  Currently, Sasanna is living life to the fullest in San Francisco and in nature.  Sasanna is available for mindful movement consulting and speaking engagements.  She can be reached at sasannayee@gmail.com.

More about Sasanna:

Sasanna was born in San Francisco and resides in the neighborhood Visitacion Valley. She is a bilingual (Cantonese and English) trauma-informed yoga teacher who is passionate about healing and wholeness on all levels. Her affinity to rise above ideology helps her audiences to transcend change and create widespread peace by implementing techniques into their respective communities.

A graduate from University of California, San Diego, Sasanna received a Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Science and Human Computer Interaction.

Her yogic journey began over 10 years ago through her own search to ease chronic pain and mental health challenges. She has found it possible to experience more peace, joy and freedom in mind, body, spirit through her deep spiritual and physical practices. This healing led to formal yoga training from Niroga Institute in Oakland, CA and Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center in India.

Following her trainings, Sasanna began speaking, teaching and sharing her passion for the experiential aspects of the connection between an individual’s pain and the pain of communities.  It is the same.  She believes in connection through empowerment and offers tools to deepen this most important relationship with self; thereby thereby offering healing and wholeness on all levels.

Through her self growth and changes in her own life, Sasanna believes we can heal core wounds, build resilience and transform lives.
