Sasanna Yee, born and raised in San Francisco, is a bilingual (Cantonese and English) trauma-informed yoga teacher who is passionate about healing and wholeness on all levels. Her own yogic journey began over 10 years ago when she was looking to ease chronic pain and mental health challenges. She has found it possible to experience more peace, joy and freedom in mind, body, spirit, and community. Sasanna not only sees but feels the connection between an individual’s pain and the pain of a community. It is the same. She received formal training from Niroga Institute in Oakland, CA and Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center in India. She teaches yoga through the lens of access providing therapeutic support to underserved and underrepresented communities such as at-risk and immigrant populations. By giving people the tools to connect deeper with themselves and each other, Sasanna firmly believes we can heal core wounds, build resilience and transform lives. The ripples are infinite.
Grandmother. Teach us the ways of the trees, mountains and the waters.
Sasanna’s life changed forever on the morning of January 8th, 2019 when a 17 year old young man took the life of her 88 year old grandmother Yik Oi Huang at the Visitacion Valley Playground. Through hot tears, anguish and shock, she called for Peace in the South East corner of San Francisco. She integrated her 12+ years of experience in social justice, spiritual philosophy, healing practices to bring communities together in solidarity and song. On January 12th, 2019, she hosted “Healing Through Solidarity and Song Event” with the help of many community leaders and organizations. Just the day before, Sasanna had shared an update on FB about the progress she made on her personal healing journey. Just 5 days before, she had completed her fourth 10-day silent meditation retreat where she connected with compassion, freedom and inner harmony. From that grounded and open-hearted space, Sasanna sprang into action that tragic day being the change she wanted to see in the world. The cycle of violence stops with her. Guided by her grandmother’s abundant love (meaning of Yik Oi) for humanity, Sasanna alchemized her anger and grief through service.
Sasanna Yee is a steward of hope, healing, and harmony. She is an inspirational speaker who empowers people to transform their pain into compassionate action.
Sasanna’s mission is to raise the vibration of those around her by creating sanctuary spaces for joy, remembrance and healing.
